UK sixpence
Victoria
jubilee head
1887 to 1893
Values, images, and specifications for British six pence
coins from 1887 to 1893. (jubilee head)
The first 'jubilee head'
Victorian UK sixpence was
minted in 1887, and the
last in 1893.
The obverse features the robed
jubilee bust of Victoria facing
left, adorned with jewellery,
veil, and a small crown.
Two reverse types exist for this period. The shield reverse
was used in 1887 only, then withdrawn, due to confusion
caused by similarities with the half sovereign size and design.
The sixpence reverse design returned to the familiar
'crowned SIX PENCE in an open wreath' in 1887.
Victoria was the longest reigning British monarch at
nearly 64 years, until topped by Elizabeth II in 2015.
Our Queen Victoria era UK sixpence category has been
broken down in to six pages:
Victoria married Albert in 1840. The pair had 9
children, who went on to marry in to royalty
across Europe. The Victorian era was one of
dramatic change and development in industry,
science, culture, and politics. Victoria entered a
protracted period of mourning following Albert's
death in 1861, lasting many years.
