The 1887 'shield reverse' UK sixpence reverse shows
the UK coat of arms with the royal crown above,
surrounded by a garter with the motto 'HONI SOIT
QUI MAL Y PENSE', and the date below.
The shield quadrants show three lions representing
England, one lion representing Scotland, and a harp
representing Ireland.

The shield reverse sixpence was quickly withdrawn, as
design and size was too similar to the half sovereign.
