maundy money
Values, images, and specifications for Maundy coins from
the United Kingdom, Great Britain, and England.
Royal Maundy is a religious
service held the day before
Good Friday.
The service includes a
limited distribution of alms
by the monarch, known as
Maundy money.
In the earlier years, Maundy money was coinage from circulation,
however from the 18th century coinage was specifically struck for
the purpose of Royal Maundy, with it's own distinctive design.
Normally issued in sets of four coins, including a penny, 2 pence,
3 pence, and 4 pence, the limited mintage, historical significance, and
silver content has made Maundy coins highly desirable to collectors.
