The reverse shows a crowned shield with coats of arms inside a wreath.
From 1887, the 'jubilee head' obverse shows an older Victoria wearing a
small crown. The reverse shows a crowned shield displaying coats of
arms inside a garter with the date below. The design changed again in
1893, to the 'veiled head' obverse. The reverse shows a crowned shield
with coats of arms inside ornate design, with the date below.
Victoria was the longest reigning British monarch at
nearly 64 years, until topped by Elizabeth II in 2015.
Victoria married Albert in 1840. The pair had 9 children,
who went on to marry in to royalty across Europe.
Victoria entered a protracted period of mourning
following Albert's death in 1861, lasting many years.
The Victorian era was one of dramatic change and
development in industry, science, culture, and politics.
