King Edward VIII, abdicated.
The first King George VI
United Kingdom threepence
was minted in 1937, and the
last in 1952.
From 1937, new 12-sided nickel-brass threepence coins
were introduced, which were initially used alongside the
silver threepence.

The silver threepence reverse shows a shield with Saint
George's Cross on a Tudor rose.

The silver threepence was discontinued for local
circulation after 1941, with the 1942 to 1945 silver
threepence minted specifically for colonial use.
