The first King George III
United Kingdom halfcrown
was minted in 1816, and the
last in 1820.
The King George III era United Kingdom halfcrown obverse features
George III facing right, with the date below. The design changes from
the large 'bull' bust to a smaller head in 1817.
The reverse shows a crowned shield with the coat of arms of England,
Scotland, and Ireland in the quadrants, and Hanover in the center.
Surrounding the shield is a garter, encircled by the legend.
The design changes to a larger shield version in 1817.

George III is primarily remembered as the mad king,
and for losing the American colonies, however was
reigning at the formation of the United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Ireland, and oversaw the discovery
and settlement of new colonies, including in Australia.
From 1811 his eldest son (George IV) acted as Regent,
due to his father's ill health.
