crown coins from 1760 to 1820.

George III became king upon

his grandfather's, (George II),

death in 1760, his own father

having died in 1751.

The first King George III

United Kingdom crown was

minted in 1818, and the

last in 1820.

The George III UK crown obverse features the laureate head of King

George III facing right, with legend surrounding, and date below.

The reverse depicts St George, the patron saint of England, on

horseback, slaying the dragon. The design is surrounded by a garter,

with the motto of the chivalric 'Order of the Garter'.

The regnal year of George's reign is in the raised edge lettering.

George III is primarily remembered as the mad king,

and for losing the American colonies, however was

reigning at the formation of the United Kingdom of

Great Britain and Ireland, and oversaw the discovery

and settlement of new colonies, including in Australia.

From 1811 his eldest son (George IV) acted as Regent,

due to his father's ill health.
