The 1901 United Kingdom shilling reverse
shows three crowned shields and a rose,
thistle, and shamrock, inside a garter with the
motto of the chivalric Order of the Garter.
Three lions and the rose represent England,
a single lion and the thistle represent Scotland,
and a harp and the shamrock represent Ireland.
The outer legend reads 'ONE SHILLING'
above, with the date below.
