The first King George V
Australian penny was
minted in 1911, and the
last in 1936.
The King George V Australian penny obverse features
the robed and crowned bust of King George V facing left.
The reverse shows an inner beaded circle with
'ONE PENNY' between two scrolls, surrounded by
the legend: 'COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA',
and the date below.
In 1917 King George V relinquished all
German titles and changed the house and
family name from 'Saxe-Coburg and Gotha'
to 'Windsor', due to anti-German sentiment
in the UK resulting from the Great War.
